Physics of the Riderless Bike

It looks like magic. A bike traveling at the right speed will steer itself–popping back up when it starts to fall. But why? A new paper by Andy Ruina, of Cornell University, Jim Papadopoulos, of University of Wisconsin – Stout, and colleagues challenges the conventional wisdom of what’s required for bike stability.

Ideas Needed! Pedal Powered Earth Day

Sharebike will be part of a Permaculture presentation, taking place April 23rd. This will be a part of Earth Day Roanoke and sponsored by The Urbiculture Foundation.

The idea is to have several elements of a regenerative community; off the grid examples of how to live well. There will be several exhibits under one tent. Sharebike’s role will be to provide several bicycle/human powered elements, ready to go and yet to be announced. We will also partner with Ride Solutions and other mechanics to have a bicycle repair station.

The intention of the exhibit is to spark interest in other ways of living. Regenerative lifestyles and living well, generally.

I would like to host a brainstorming session at Sharebike on Thursday, February 24th from 6:30pm until 8:00pm. We are located at 513 S. Jefferson St. All are welcome to bring ideas, the more the better.

There are some really cool pedal powered products on their way to Roanoke and they need some support. If you have any ideas, or would like to operate a pedal powered product, please either come next Thursday, or email me. Your response is welcome.
